2 Year Old Girl Killed in Englewood Hit and Run Accident

Police believe that alcohol was a factor in a hit and run accident in Englewood that left a 2 year old girl dead. Jamya Love was walking with her grandmother, who was also pushing another child in a stroller, at around 6.25 a.m on Friday, September 20th in the 5600 block of South Morgan when she was struck by the car. Taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital Jamya, who lived on the 5700 block of South Peoria, was pronounced dead at around 7 AM.

The immediate aftermath of the accident was witnessed by Nancy Miller, who said she was taking a shower when she heard “an awesome noise” followed by the sound of “a lady screaming, ‘somebody help me, help me.’” Rushing to help, Ms. Miller discovered the child’s grandmother in a state of extreme distress with Jamya lying on the ground beside her “really twisted up,” Miller said.

According to Miller the driver of the car that struck the child did not stop and took of down the street along Morgan, eventually smashing into her own car which was parked on the street before speeding away. The driver was apprehended later however by a police patrol in the area. Jamya’s grandmother was taken to Stroger Hospital. According to police, her injuries were not serious but she is very ’emotionally distraught’.
