Drill Press Accidents
A drill press is a large tool used mainly in woodworking to drill holes into objects quickly and easily. While handheld tools can accomplish the same goal, drill presses are often more accurate, especially during mass production of a product. Unfortunately, drill presses are not without risk and accidents can result in serious and deadly injuries.
If you have been injured in a drill press accident, contact Agruss Law Firm, LLC for a free consultation. We are a Chicago-based injury law firm representing individuals (and their families) who have suffered an injury in an accident. We will handle your case quickly and advise you every step of the way, and we will not hesitate to go to trial for you. Lastly, Agruss Law Firm, LLC is not paid attorneys’ fees unless we win your case. Our no-fee promise is that simple. You have nothing to risk when you hire us – only the opportunity to seek justice.
Why Drill Presses Are Dangerous
Drill presses are intended to drill holes into wood, metal, and other objects. The moving parts of the drill press are moving very quickly and can get extremely hot and should be equipped with safety guards and shut-off switches to protect workers. When these protections are not in place, it is common for a worker’s hand, arm, clothing, or hair to be pulled into the path of the moving parts of the drill press.
To protect themselves, workers should do the following:
- Do not wear loose or long clothing.
- Avoid using gloves while operating the drill press; these can get pulled into the machine-like long and loose clothing.
- Keep long hair tied back.
- Secure the material that is being worked with down onto the drill press-loose materials can spin and injure the worker or a bystander.
In addition to the lack of safety guards and switches, drill presses may also be defective. Design flaws and the failure to provide workers with adequate warnings of the risks and dangers of the drill press may also be considered negligence.
If you or a loved one has suffered injuries due to negligence on the job site, an experienced personal injury lawyer can review your claim and determine if there were unsafe working conditions, potential OSHA violations, and other hazards that may have existed at the time of your accident. They will also determine who may be liable for your injuries and damages and what compensation you may be entitled to.
We at Agruss Law Firm are proud to serve our fellow citizens in personal injury cases, especially when you or a loved one has been injured, and we are fully committed to protecting your rights and ensuring that the other party is held legally accountable when negligence occurs.
