Grinders, also known as angle grinders, side grinders, or disc grinders, are a powerful tool used to abrasive cutting, smoothing, and polishing a wide variety of materials and are commonly seen in machine shops and construction sites. While there is an expectation that these tools will work as designed and the safety features will keep operators and bystanders free of injuries, accidents can still occur.

If you have been injured in a grinder accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation. We are a Chicago-based injury law firm representing individuals (and their families) who have suffered an injury in an accident. We will handle your case quickly and advise you every step of the way, and we will not hesitate to go to trial for you. Lastly, Mike Agruss Law is not paid attorneys’ fees unless we win your case. Our no-fee promise is that simple. You have nothing to risk when you hire us – only the opportunity to seek justice.

The Purpose of Grinders

Handheld grinders are typically powered through an electric motor or compressed air and are used for a multitude of purposes and on many different materials. Grinders can be equipped with different discs and blades, which can include diamond blades, wire brushes, and stone depending on the job at hand.

Grinders are made by a number of manufacturers, including Makita, Black and Decker, Ingersoll Rand, and Bosch. Grinder designers and manufacturers owe their consumers a duty to provide a safe product, but unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.

Grinder Accident Injuries

Even with safety features in place, grinders are still a dangerous tool, especially if they are used in an inappropriate manner or if they are defective in design. The most common grinder injuries include:

  • Eye injuries – Flying debris, especially larger pieces, can damage the eyes, even with protective eyewear in place.
  • Lacerations – Both the worker using the grinder and bystanders can come into contact with the blades being used or they could be cut by the debris that is produced.
  • Burns – Grinders become extremely hot when in use and workers can become severely burned if the equipment overheats or the grinder’s safety features fail.
  • Amputations – Either due to a direct cut from the grinder, or as a result of an infection because of a grinder laceration, amputations are common injuries seen following grinder accidents.

If you or a loved one has suffered injuries due to negligence on the job site or a defective product, an experienced personal injury lawyer can review your claim and determine if there were unsafe working conditions, potential OSHA violations, and other hazards that may have existed at the time of your accident. They will also determine who may be liable for your injuries and damages and what compensation you may be entitled to.

We at Mike Agruss Law are proud to serve our fellow citizens in personal injury cases, especially when you or a loved one has been injured, and we are fully committed to protecting your rights and ensuring that the other party is held legally accountable when negligence occurs. We will fight until the very end to ensure that you are fully compensated for all injuries and losses resulting from the accident, including medical expenses, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering, and you won’t owe us a dime for our services.
