In the State of Illinois, drivers who can’t find vehicle coverage through the regular insurance market can get the Illinois Auto Insurance Plan (ILAIP). This plan was created in 1940 as a last resort for high-risk drivers who can’t secure an auto insurance.

Among those identified as high-risk drivers are those with problematic driving records and certain types of vehicles. Before you can qualify for ILAIP, however, you must satisfy the following requirements:

  • You should have a valid driver’s license or are eligible to get one
  • You should have a vehicle safe to operate
  • You must be turned down by auto insurance companies
  • You should not have an outstanding premium with your auto insurance for the last 36 months
Insurance companies in Illinois offering vehicle coverage are required to accept high-risk drivers based on their annual quota. Drivers qualified for ILAIP will be placed in a residual pool then assigned to a regular insurance carrier. However, with the ILAIP, your premium may be higher than the average insurance cost. Should you be able to maintain a good driving record, you may eventually return to a regular insurer.

A lot of personal injury lawyers raise their contingency fee throughout the process, charging 1/3 if the case is settled pre-suit, charging 40% if the case is filed after a lawsuit is filed, and charging 50% if the case goes to trial. We don’t. At Mike Agruss Law, our personal injury contingency fee is always 1/3 and that’s not changing. We will handle your property damage claim FOR FREE.  We will never change our contingency fee throughout the process.  You will not owe us a penny unless you get money.
