A woman was killed, and her two children were injured, as another Metra train crushes car in Chicago car accident at 115th Street and Marshfield Avenue near Morgan Park. According to authorities, the deceased, Tristian Williams, and her sons, Jayvon and JonKing, were on their way to Higgins Community Academy when she suddenly stopped at crossing gates and then got hit by the train.

Tristian’s husband, Bill Williams, has no idea why his wife pulled around crossing gates. They have been married for four years and described his wife as “loving and very likable person.” The two boys could not have been saved without the help of passers-by who rushed to the vehicle immediately after witnessing the accident. They pulled the boys out and they were sent to the Advocate Christ Medical Center. Jayvon suffered face contusions while JonKing broke his legs. The mother died on the scene.

One of the witnesses saw how the van was “flipped and rolled” by the train. Prior to that, he saw that the gates were closed and how Mrs Williams tried to go around it. “It looks like she just panicked,” he added. Tristian Williams has been a stay-at-home mom after she lost her job at TLX. Prior to this, she drove buses in downtown Chicago for three years. She was planning to go back to work when her youngest son, Jayvon, started full-time school next year.

Perry Logan, one of the witnesses of the accident described how they found the victims. He said JonKing’s leg was stuck on the seatbelt. Logan unbuckled the older brother who then went for Jayvon. It was not until other people came to help that both boys were successfully taken out of the vehicle. Logan also said that Mrs. Williams was still breathing when he rushed to the vehicle. They had a hard time getting her out because she was trapped by the twisted metals and glass shards everywhere. By the time rescuers arrives to cut her out, she was already dead.

Metra spokesperson Meg Reile said that the train was running at 79 mph—its highest speed—when it hit the vehicle. It was on its way to Washington Heights Station at 103rd Street from Blue Island. Metra confirms that this is the 20th time someone has died from one of their trains hitting a pedestrian.
