Unsanitary Conditions

A lack of usable water can be especially detrimental to farm/agriculture workers, whether in the form of drinking water or handwashing/sanitation facilities. Common risks may include agrichemical poisoning from a lack of handwashing facilities; heat exhaustion or stroke due to lack of water-intake; urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by urinary retention due to lack of restrooms; and infections and diseases spread by microbes and/or parasites.

All agricultural establishments which employ eleven (11) or more workers in manual labor on any given day are subject to the "Field Sanitation standard" (1928.110), which establishes requirements for the availability of water, and they are also subject to OSHA's requirements for these facilities and employees' reasonable access to them.
