The Lake County Coroner has released the name of the driver and victim in the car accident on Thursday, October 10. The victim was 20-year-old Lance A. Nazario of Zion, Illinois. According to preliminary tests by the coroner’s office, he had a blood alcohol content of at least 0.8 at the time of the accident, and also seemed to have THC in his system. Cannabis was also discovered in the passenger compartment by investigators. He was not wearing his seat belt.
The front right passenger, a 24-year-old man from Waukegan, was transported to Condell Hospital with serious injuries, and is still undergoing treatment. He was also not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. A rear passenger, also 24 years old from Waukegan, was taken to Lake Forest Hospital, treated and released later that morning. He was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries.
An examination of the scene shows the car was driving over the posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour at the time of the accident, and it seems the car hit the center median on Route 41 before driving off the road to the right. This accident happened where the road turns left sharply then right again.
