A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is generally caused by a strong impact or blow to the head. There are two major types of TBI: open and closed. If you or a loved one has sustained a TBI from a car accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

An open TBI from a car accident occurs when the skull is broken or penetrated by some object. When your head hits this object, the first layer of the head’s skin, as well as the cranial bone itself, is broken. This leaves the brain more vulnerable and open to damage after the actual injury has already damaged the skull and brain. The major damage is localized to where the penetration occurs since that area bore the brunt of the impact.

A closed TBI occurs when the object or force impacts the head without breaking the skull or penetrating it. This results in a more widespread injury where the damage is not necessarily localized. Typically, the brain violently shifts within the skull and there is an internal injury to some area(s) of the brain. It is impossible to tell where the brain will be most affected or what the symptoms to follow will be until they appear. However, with immediate medical attention, you can know what is damaged, how you may be affected, and how you can be treated.
