They told me about a $1,000 debt that was ran up by my mother back in 2007. They threatened to sue me and take my wages and my car. I was scared and told them I only had $50 to my name. I didn\'t know there was a law of statue of limitations. How bad did I screw up when I paid the $50?

Received a call from LTS today claiming that I have a complaint about me and if not addressed on the phone right then they would file a suit and contact my employer to garnish my wages. It was only for $114 but it was forcefully relayed that if I did not settle on that phone call it would total to be more than $600. I ended up having to be transfered to a \"manager\" who informed me that they \"sent\" mail to me about this attempt to collect a debt. I never received any mail, emails, or phone calls (until this one). They claim it was from 2 bounced checks in 2016. I refused to pay them anything until they gave me proof they are a legitimate collections agency and proof of my debt. It was claimed that they could not provide me with any information beyond the Store number of alleged bounced checks, amount and date. I was informed I would need to hire a lawyer to get that information from them but if I did I would no longer be eligible to pay the $114. In the end I got all of thr managers information and a couple emails/invoice for the $114 and paid with a credit card that only has a 300 dollar limit. I was not going to give up my actual banking info. I\'ve read through a previous court case LTS was in and it seems like a lot of the same tactics they used on me were found to be illegal. Did I do the right thing or should I have held out? Honestly the threat of calling my employer over and over again was intense, I don\'t see how that can be legal without ever providing me any proof of alleged debt.
