Beau Carbonneau Dies Days after Motorcycle Crash in Suburban Lemont, IL

Officials in Lemont, IL, have identified Beau Carbonneau as the motorcyclist who died after he was injured in a crash on Interstate 355 in southwest suburban Lemont last Sunday.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:28 p.m. on June 21 on I-355. Carbonneau, 44, was riding a black motorcycle in the right lane when he attempted to switch lanes and was struck by a white Ford pickup, police said. He lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected.

Carbonneau suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center, where he died on Tuesday. The county medical examiner’s office confirmed that he died of complications caused by injuries he sustained in the crash. His death was ruled an accident.

State police haven’t issued any citations or charges at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Motorcyclists are generally more vulnerable than the occupants of passenger vehicles because of simple exposure. In 2015 alone, 88,000 motorcyclists were injured on U.S. roadways and 5,000 lost their lives. The number of motorcycle deaths in the U.S. has more than doubled over the last decade, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

As the investigation into Sunday’s incident continues, Beau Carbonneau’s family may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Under Illinois law, the family of a wrongful death victim can seek compensation for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following an accident.
