Crystal Lake TV Reporter Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A 26-year-old TV news reporter from northwest suburban Crystal Lake was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday in North Port, FL.

According to authorities, the woman was reportedly riding on the back of a BMW motorcycle on November 14 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. No further details have been provided at this time.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, who was identified as Jennifer Lenzini, was flown to a hospital in Sarasota, where she was also pronounced dead.

Lenzini was a graduate of the University of Illinois who grew up in Crystal Lake. In 2016, she became a reporter and weekend anchor at Sioux City news station KTIV.

“Jenny covered stories that mattered most to our community in Charlotte County and Lee County,” her station said Sunday. “She was always diligent in her work and made sure you knew how grateful and thankful she was to be reporting in Southwest Florida.”

Motorcycle passengers face significant risks on roadways because unlike the passengers of motor vehicles, they don’t have the benefit of safety features included in most motor vehicles, including seat belts and airbags. As a result, there are approximately 5,000 motorcycle-related fatalities every year, despite the fact that motorcyclists account for less than 1 percent of vehicle miles traveled in the U.S.

As the investigation into the North Port crash continues, Jennifer Lenzini’s family may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. A “wrongful” death can be a complex situation. With the assistance of an attorney, the families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship and emotional distress following an unexpected death.
