David Perry of Homer, Steven Cary of Bridgeport Injured in Three-Vehicle Accident Near Homer Lake Road

Authorities in Homer, IL, have identified David Perry of Homer and Steven Cary of Bridgeport as the drivers who were hospitalized after a three-vehicle accident in southern Champaign County on Thursday afternoon.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. August 6 on Illinois 49 just north of Homer Lake Road. Someone driving a van in the northbound lane drifted into the southbound lane and struck a semi-trailer truck in the rear axle. The van continued moving and struck the front passenger side of a Jeep that was behind the semi.

Perry, 73, was purportedly the driver of the Jeep. He was transported to an area hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital on Saturday, sources indicate. The driver of the semi-trailer truck, identified as Cary, 59, was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries. His current condition is unknown.

The driver of the van that set off the collision was identified as 35-year-old Cory Kalber of Effingham. State troopers shut Illinois 49 for an hour to conduct an investigation and then ticketed Kalber for improper lane usage.

As the investigation continues, David Perry and Steven Cary may be entitled to personal injury claims. With the assistance of an attorney, anyone who is injured in an accident caused by another driver’s negligence can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and more.
