Car accidents occur for a variety of reasons, including aggression, distracted driving, fatigue, intoxication, speeding, and inexperience. They are a serious problem in the United States; over 6.4 million car accidents reported across the nation in 2005, resulting in tens of thousands of fatalities.

In Cook County, car accidents were responsible for 27,000 injuries and 1,017 deaths in 2016. 20 percent of all auto accidents recorded in Illinois occurred in Cook County during that year.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Deidre Brewster’s family may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, the loved ones of a wrongful death victim can legally seek compensation for funeral expenses, emotional distress, and loss of companionship.
