Jacob Bright Injured, 17-Month-Old Baby Killed in Traffic Crash Near Rosamond, IL

Authorities in Christian County announced that a 17-month-old baby was killed and a man critically injured in a car crash in Rosamond last Friday.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on July 24 at the intersection of 2000 East and 350 North Road in Rosamond. A 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Chase Gaton, 20, of Stonington was southbound on Christian County Township Road when it failed to yield at the intersection and crashed into a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a loaded trailer.

A front-seat passenger in Gaton’s vehicle, identified as Jacob Bright, 24, of Taylorville was thrown from the car. He was airlifted to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield with critical injuries. His current condition is unknown.

Another passenger in the vehicle, identified as 17-month-old Knox Gaton, was in a car seat in the rear passenger side. The baby was injured in the crash and was transported to a children’s hospital in St. Louis, where he died the following day.

Chase Gaton was also hospitalized with minor injuries. He received a citation for failing to yield the right of way at an intersection, sources indicate. The pickup truck he struck was driven by 21-year-old Tyler Buerster from Noble. He was reportedly not injured in the crash.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Tyler Buerster may be entitled to a personal injury claim. With the assistance of an attorney, car accidents victims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering following an accident.
