Meadowbrook Manor Continues to Have Highest Number of COVID-19 Deaths Among Illinois Nursing Homes

A nursing home in Bolingbrook, IL, once again has the highest number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases among all other care facilities in the state, according to data published by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Meadowbrook Manor of Bolingbrook is a 298-bed facility on 431 W. Remington Boulevard. According to IDPH, it has 184 positive cases and 26 fatalities as of May 15. The facility has surpassed Symphony of Joliet, 306 N. Larkin Avenue, which just a few weeks ago had the highest number of cases and deaths in Will County. Symphony now has the second-highest death toll, with 24 fatalities.

Each week, IDPH publishes the number of confirmed coronavirus and deaths at nursing homes in the state. The agency announced 2,294 new cases of the virus and 59 additional deaths on Monday, bringing the statewide total to 96,485 confirmed cases and 4,234 fatalities. Nursing homes and long-term care facilities are the hardest hit by the pandemic, with fatalities at such facilities now accounting for 49 percent of all deaths reported in the state.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which regulates nursing homes in the U.S., require facilities to have an infection control and prevention plan ready in case of disease outbreaks. Facilities that don’t follow directives issued by the government to protect vulnerable residents may be held liable for any resulting deterioration in health or death
