Police Seeking Witnesses of Truck Accident that Killed John Rodgers IV of Buffalo Grove
Police in Buffalo Grove, IL, announced that John Rodgers IV, 49, died from injuries he sustained in a car accident on Monday.
According to the Buffalo Grove Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Lake Cook Road near Village Hall. Rodgers was westbound in a 2015 Subaru Legacy when, for reasons that are unclear, his vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes and crashed head-on into a dump truck.
Rodgers suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Northwest Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision.
The incident is being investigated by the Major Crash Assistance Team. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. No charges or citations have been issued at this time. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the department at (849) 459-2560.
Truck accidents often tend to be much more severe than other types of auto accidents due to the large size of the vehicles involved. According to the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 4,761 large truck fatalities in the U.S. in 2017. An estimated 72 percent of those deaths were of the occupants of the other vehicle(s) involved in the collision.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, Rodgers’ family may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. A “wrongful death” is one that was caused by the fault of another person. Deaths caused by car accidents, hospital negligence, or medical malpractice are all examples of what may be considered “wrongful deaths” under Illinois law.
