Police in Effingham, IL, have identified Richard Beagle as the driver who was injured after a traffic accident involving an 18-wheel truck on Monday.
According to Illinois State Police (ISP), the crash occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-57. Beagle was in the center lane passing a semi-truck when it crossed into his lane and struck his vehicle, sources allege. Beagle was transported to St. Anthony’s Memorial hospital with unspecified injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 42-year-old David Blalock, remained and the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was cited for improper lane usage.
Truck accidents are often much more severe than other types of car-on-car accidents due to the large size of the vehicles involved. According to the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 4,761 large truck fatalities in the U.S. in 2017, and about 72 percent of those deaths were of occupants of the other vehicles involved in the collision.
Since the truck driver appears to be at-fault in Monday’s crash, Richard Beagle may be entitled to a personal injury suit. In cases like this, it is imperative for the victim to hire an experienced personal injury attorney who can file a claim on their behalf, and negotiate with the trucking company’s insurance provider to ensure they receive fair compensation.
