Woman Seriously injured after Crash with Will County Sheriff's Deputy in Rockdale, IL
Police in Rockdale, IL, announced that a woman suffered life-threatening injuries on Monday night after an accident with a Will County sheriff’s deputy.
According to Rockdale police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:27 p.m. on August 3 near the intersection of Meadow Avenue and Morris Street. The woman, who hasn’t been identified, was driving an SUV with her husband and their five children as passengers. She reportedly drove past a stop sign at the intersection and was struck by an oncoming Will County sheriff’s vehicle.
The woman was ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath the SUV. The deputy who struck her vehicle reportedly assisted two other officers and two citizens to lift it off her body and extricate her. She was rushed to an area hospital, where she remains in critical condition, sources indicate.
Police said the woman appears to be the only person who was severely injured in the collision. Her children and husband were not seriously injured, and the deputy was not injured.
Accidents of this kind aren’t uncommon in Illinois. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, over 84,000 people in Illinois were injured in car accidents in 2014, and over 11,700 suffered “significant” injuries that prevented them from resuming their daily activities from before the accident.
As the investigation into Monday’s crash continues, the woman who was injured by the deputy may be entitled to a personal injury claim. With the help of an attorney, anyone injured in an auto accident caused by another driver’s negligence can seek compensation for medical expenses, property damage, lost wages, and more.
