After you are injured in a premises liability accident, there are a few things that you should keep in mind and consider in a timely manner. First, you or someone that you are with should note your surroundings, and take many pictures of the accident, the area, and your injuries. This is to help the attorneys see the conditions of the property to make judgements on its safety later. Also, documenting your injuries will serve as proof of their occurrence and severity. But above all, your safety is the priority. If you feel that you need immediate medical attention, call 911 or have someone drive you to the hospital if you are accompanied by someone.

You should also report the accident to the property owner as soon as possible. Try to get this report proved in writing. If you were unable to take photos or record your surroundings before, now is the time to do so. Additionally, add some of your personal thoughts about the timeline of events leading up to and after the accident. You want as much evidence as you can get, just in case. Remember that the statute of limitations in Illinois to file a premises liability lawsuit is within two years of the date of the accident. After that day, you can no longer pursue legal action, no matter what.
