Fractures may be able to heal without a cast. When bones are displaced and broken into two separate pieces, they may require surgery and/or a cast to immobilize and hold them together in place. Other times, more minor fractures only need rest to heal. Some broken bones left to heal without a cast may heal improperly, as the bones may recover in an abnormal configuration.
