A one-vehicle crash in Jefferson County, Illinois, claimed the life of a young man from Valier. Ronnie J. Stroud Jr., 23, was driving along on Illinois 148 on August 17, 2013, around four in the morning; apparently, he ran off the road, went airborne, and hit some trees. The crash was not discovered until ten that morning, when a state trooper traveling the highway at 10 a.m. saw skid marks found Stroud’s vehicle down a large embankment. Authorities say he died on impact and was not wearing a seat belt; state police are investigating the accident.
