One type of transportation that is growing in popularity is the hoverboard. A hoverboard is a type of motorized scooter without any handlebar. Users steer them with their own balance and place their feet on the designated spaces to move it forwards or backwards by leaning on way. Though fun and interesting, this new type of technology with little manual handheld control leaves the possibility for accidents to occur. If you or a loved one has been injured in a hoverboard accident, contact us for a free consultation to see if you may be entitled to compensation.

What kinds of accidents and injuries can occur?

Hoverboards often have more inherently caused accidents than accidents with others. Hoverboards have been known to combust and start a fire, which can cause serious burns, injuries from smoke inhalation, or injuries such as bruising or concussions when one falls after the fire starts. They can also have design or manufacturing defects which can cause a wide array of injuries, depending on what the defect is. The hoverboard may come to sudden stops, go the wrong direction, or go faster than desired. Someone may also choose to use the hoverboard to travel on roads or sidewalks, which can cause accidents with other vehicles or pedestrians. These injuries depend largely on speed, but they can cause bruising, broken bones, concussions, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, lacerations, and more.

Who is liable?

These accidents are based on negligence. The party who displays negligence by breaching their duty of care owed to others and causing an accident that directly contributed to injuries can be held liable for it. If the accident was due to a fire or a defect in the hoverboard, the hoverboard company can be held liable for releasing a defective product to the public. In the case of a hoverboard accident with another vehicle, liability can be determined by looking at how the accident occurred and finding who was negligent by not following the laws and regulations in the public space.
