How do you fix a herniated disk?

If you or a loved one has sustained a herniated disk injury from an accident, contact Agruss Law Firm, LLC for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

The flat, round intervertebral disks made of tough cartilage on the outside and soft cartilage on the inside are meant to act as cushions between your bones and as a shock absorber, as well. A herniated disk is the result of a high-energy impact that injures the spine, such as a fall or a motor vehicle collision. This causes one or more of the disks to crack on the outside, tough cartilage part and allow the softer inner cartilage to protrude out of the disk’s perimeter.

These injuries are certainly able to be fixed. To treat a herniated disk, doctors often recommend non-surgical treatment to start unless there is extreme pain or deformity resulting from the injury. Non-surgical treatment may involve pain medications, such as prescribed drugs or oral steroids, as the injuries heal on its own. Also, physical therapy could be used to minimize damage in and around the disks as they heal. These treatments would have a duration of about one to two months.

Surgical treatment may be a microdiscectomy, where a herniated portion of the disk is removed. Or, a more invasive option, if the former one does not completely solve the issue, is an anterior cervical decompression surgical procedure. This removes some of the disk material through the front of the neck. There is also an option for the back of the neck. Either way, after these surgical efforts, a herniated disk should be healed within one or two months when treated according to the doctor’s recommendations.

If another person caused your injuries, you can file a claim against them for monetary damages. Medical care for a herniated disk is not cheap, and it certainly is not cheap when it involves surgery or potential complications that you may have had to deal with. With our help, we can help you recover the costs of your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that resulted from another person’s actions.
