The construction industry is known for being one of the most dangerous industries to work in. According to statistics by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), out of every 5,000 private-industry worker fatalities, 20% are in construction, or one out of every five worker deaths is construction-related. Construction accidents also result in many non-fatal injuries that can cost millions of dollars a year.

Why Construction is so Dangerous

When construction workers arrive on the job site each day they face a number of hazards. OSHA has what it calls its “Fatal Four”, which are the four leading causes of workplace fatalities in the construction industry. These include falls, being struck by an object, electrocution, and being caught in something or between two objects. These four types of accidents account for 59.9% of construction worker deaths.

While some of these risks are inherent to construction work, many can be minimized or eliminated altogether if employers and employees follow the strict safety regulations OSHA has in place to protect workers from injury and death. When a construction site owner or contractor fails to keep its employees safe, they may be held liable for any harm that results from their negligence.
