When snow or ice is tracked into a store, it melts and creates a puddle in the store. This creates a slipping hazard for everyone there. Additionally, the puddle is likely to be at the entrance where everyone comes in fresh from the snow and ice, and leaves. If you slip on melted ice or snow in a store, you may be able to sue the store owner for negligence under premises liability laws.

You must be able to prove that the accident was caused by negligence. This means that you must show that the store owner owed you a duty of care, that duty of care was breached, and you suffered injuries and/or damages as a direct result. There are many other factors at play that a lawyer will be able to unpack with you, but generally, proving those conditions of negligence may allow you to sue the store owner. As a result of a successful case, you can be compensated for your injuries, lost wages from being kept from work, pain and suffering, and more. Speaking with an attorney will give you an idea of how viable of a case that you have as well as the damages that you can recover.
