Sprains and strains are similar but fairly different injuries that can disrupt a person’s everyday ways of life. When this injury was caused by someone else, you can receive monetary damages for what you have experienced. If you or a loved one has experienced a sprain or strain injury from an accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

Sprains and strains both occur in joints throughout the body. A sprain affects the ligaments, which are bands of tissue that connect bones to each other. They occur when one or more ligaments overstretch or tear due to some type of injury. On the other hand, a strain affects the muscles or tendons, which are the tough, fibrous connective collagen tissues that connect muscles to bones. Strains occur when the muscle or tendon overstretches or tears.

Both injuries have similar symptoms. These symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, limited range of motion, pain when attempting to use the joint, or the complete inability to use the joint. These injuries are usually caused by some twisting or rolling force on the joint, such as rolling the ankle. Accidents that can cause this include: sports injuries, a blow to the body, or over-stressing the muscles through physical exertion. The most common type of sprain is an ankle strain.

If you believe that you have a sprain or a strain, you should seek medical attention immediately so that you can get treated as soon as possible and avoid any complications. The doctor can diagnose you with a physical examination, an X-ray, and perhaps an MRI to see images of the inside of the body. They can rule out other injuries through these tests. Treatment is fairly straightforward as it follows the “RICE” acronym, which includes rest, icing the injury, compression to reduce swelling (with a bandage), and keeping the joint elevated to reduce swelling. These can cause you to be out of work for days or weeks, and you deserve some justice if someone else caused this.

If another person caused your injuries, you can file a claim against them for monetary damages. Medical care for a bone fracture is not cheap, and it certainly is not cheap when it involves surgery or potential complications that you may have had to deal with. With our help, we can help you recover the costs of your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that resulted from another person’s actions.
