Dear Madam or Sir, I am currently a half-time student and was informed by Navient that while in deferment, my subsidized loan would not accrue interest but that the unsubsidized loan would accrue interest. I made all of my payments online and had no way of apportioning how much of my payment would go to each loan. I was under the impression that most of the portion of my payments were applied to the unsubsidized loan so as to pay it off sooner since it was accruing interest. It has become evident to me that Sallie Mae was applying the bulk of my payments to the subsidized loan which was not accruing interest and in the meantime collecting interest on the unsubsidized loan balance. I just spoke to them today and they informed me that a refund would not be possible for the interest which they had unfairly collected on the unsubsidized loan. I ask that the BBB request from Sallie Mae that they reimburse me for the interest which they had collected on the unsubsidized loan while it was in deferment for the last two years. The entire time I was paying my loan, I was under the impression that they were applying more of the payment to the portion of the loan which was being charged interest. It is absolutely wrong that they exploit their clients in this way. Obviously, the only reason why they have this practice is to collect more money out of poor students like me. I thank the BBB for all the help they have given me in the past and ask that they assist me with dealing with Sallie Mae and getting a refund.
