As of today, I have now received a second phone call from BMO at the number 866-618-8686. I’m reaching out to you guys because it appears that you guys seem to be aware of issues surrounding calls from this number, which is most definitely at least what is claimed to be there collections department. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau at this point because this is now second occasion that they’ve tried to call me with the first being a few months back. I spoke with someone named Rasibee and his supervisor, Ariel because Rasibee was attempting to collect a nonexistent debt on my account. There is absolutely no way that my account would be delinquent or in default and therefore in collections as I am current on all of my payments and my account even shows that I owe zero dollars, and even if I owed something, my bill is not currently due until January 10, 2025 and of course it’s only January 2, 2025 basically they were arguing that because my account over the limit that I needed to pay them right away. In the end he said he could remove me from their call list which was even more of a red flag as what bank would remove you from their call list especially for something as important as collections. Obviously this is not true because my account is current and even if I decided not to pay anything between now, and the time that my next bill comes out the amount that I’m over, the limit would simply be added to the minimum balance owed on my February bill, and as a result, my account would still not be delinquent or in default and therefore could not be in collections until at least after my February bill was due assuming that I didn’t pay it. Obviously when I was escalated to the supervisor Ariel he initially attempted to shield his employee, claiming that it was simply a courtesy call to let me know that my account was over its limit, and initially tried to insist that these calls were outside of the collectors control as they were completely automated to which I pointed out that this was not true because if it was automated at all, then the automated system would pick up when I answered the phone and clearly that’s not what’s going on. It’s obvious that the collectors are deliberately monitoring people’s accounts for anything that they think they can scam customers into paying. The first time this happened the collector‘s flat out, admitted that they were deliberately monitoring customers accounts and on that occasion, I actually called into customer support to try to find out what was going on because it definitely seemed like a scam and I was told that, obviously in my case, I should never have even received a call and even people higher up within BMO thought it was suspicious and possibly a scam. In the end after I explained everything to Ariel he agreed to make sure I didn’t receive anymore calls like this (he kept on saying that he was gonna make sure I didn’t receive any more calls at all, which is highly suspicious for the reasons outlined above) and that he would coach Rasibee. Obviously this warrants much more investigation because it clearly looks like this is a scam operation and either these people are spoofing their number to be the BMO Collections Department or these are legitimate BMO employees engaging in a scam operation attempting to collect nonexistent debts. As stated before, I’m also in the process of filing a complaint with the CFPB as we speak because as stated, this is the second time that they’ve attempted to pull this.
