Costco is an American retailing company, which runs giant warehouse stores selling thousands of small consumer goods (grocery items, clothing, household goods, electronics, etc). The company started out as a single store operating out of a converted airplane hangar in San Diego in 1976 (this was actually a Price Club warehouse; the two companies merged in 1993). The first Costco warehouse opened in Seattle in 1983; today, the company pulls in $64 billion, annually. To shop at Costco, you need to purchase a membership. Membership is also required to sign up for a Costco credit card, which is run by American Express (which will cancel your credit card if you let your Costco membership lag).
What happens, though, if you find yourself in financial difficulty and you cannot pay your Costco credit card? Well, you’re not alone. If Costco is contacting you to collect a debt, whether you owe it or not, Costco must follow the law. Costco is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, which has rated them F, their lowest rating; the BBB has received more than three hundred complaints about the company in the last three years.
If Costco has done anyone of the following, contact America’s Consumer Lawyer, for a free case evaluation:
- Called you after you told them to stop calling you.
- Called you about a debt you do not owe.
- Continued to call you after you have told the collector you cannot pay the debt.
- Communicated (phone or letter) with you after you filed for bankruptcy.
- Communicated (phone or letter) with you after you told the collector you have a lawyer.
- Called you before 8:00 a.m. or after 9:00 p.m.
- Called you at work after you told the collector you cannot receive such calls at work.
- Left you a voicemail message without saying the company’s name.
- Called third parties (family, friends, co-workers, or neighbors).
- Threatened legal action against you.
- Placed robocalls to you.
- Sent you unsolicited text messages.

I just had some questions ok, its a long and detailed story. But, in a nutshell - Costco is accusing me of owing them 1600.00 for a computer that I purchased there in October 2015. The charges were credited back to me. And they are saying I never paid for it. (This is after they had already accused me of owing them money for another computer a few months ago) From my memory...and that is not always good - I think I remember the bank calling or emailing me to confirm that purchases made on my card were legitimate. At that time, there was TWO charges showing for a computer purchase. I told them that I was seeing the charges twice. They confirmed that there were two charges. I said, if that is the case, then one needs to come off. I cannot be charges twice. So the bank went through its processes. They gave me a temporary credit in my account for the money. Two months or so later, I get an email from the bank that they have confirmed that it was 'fraudulent' and the temporary credit will now become permanent and the case would be closed. We are now located in Willows, Ca. We lived in Magalia, CA when we made these purchases. (We moved at the very end of November/beginning of December.) Our Costco is located in Chico, CA!

My sister in law was on my Costco account and went to get off my membership because they sent me to collections and in the event of her trying to get one they embarrassed her and humiliated her over my debt but I haven’t paid it yet because they keep threatening to take me to court and jail if I do not pay the triple amount of the bounced check

Hi Rebecca. Debt collectors are not permitted to threaten you with going to jail or harass you over a debt. If they are doing so, they are violating the law and could face fines. I'd be happy to discuss this with you in more detail when I give you a call. You can also reach me at 312-224-4695. Thanks, Mike

Hi Bobby. I'm not associated with Ashton and Weinberg, they are a debt collector. Instead, my law firm represents consumers against these companies who are harassing them, getting them the justice and money they deserve. If Costco is threatening you, they could be fined for violating the law. I'd be happy to talk more with you about this debt and your possible options. I'll contact you or you can reach my law firm at 312-224-4695. Thanks, Mike

Hi Lori. I have some questions about your claim, which we can discuss over the phone. Did you pay for the legitimate purchase? Is there a possible mix-up in who was notified about the chargeback? I will reach out to you and we can work through this together. Thanks, Mike

Paid with a Citigroup credit card (not costco visa) for a $1300 mac that was never delivered, unfortunately I no longer have the screenshot from UPS showing \"delivered\" but no photo of where package was delivered. Spoke to costco reps 4-5 calls where a refund/replacement would be sent, after 3 weeks no word I callback and get transferred to a new division stating I have to file a police report or they will send me to collections. One last email came yesterday stating they will send me to collections if I don\'t pay asap. Overall should have been simple refund/replacement due to a never delivered package and now they\'re going back on their word via call center reps and now pinning it on me! Any help much appreciated
Costco failed to satisfy an order I\'ve made due to shipping issues on their end. They refused to refund my money, and so I disputed it with evidence with my bank and won. Right now, they\'ve given my \"debt\" to a debt collector that\'s harassing me with incorrect / flawed evidence. They\'ve failed to give me a written response of information within 5 days of the initial contact (which was an angry phone call intimidating me, and hanging up when I asked for information), as well as failed to provide enough information in their \"verification\" of the debt (flawed information).
