Meade & Associates Lawsuits

If you want to know just how unhappy consumers are with Meade & Associates, take a look at the number of lawsuits filed against Meade & Associates on the Public Access to Court Electronic Records (“PACER”). PACER is the federal docket throughout the country that lists federal complaints filed against Meade & Associates. When you do a search for Meade & Associates, there are over 15 lawsuits filed against Meade & Associates. Most of these lawsuits involve consumer rights’ violations.

Meade & Associates Harassment

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“FDCPA”) is a federal law that applies to everyone in the United States. In other words, everyone is protected under the FDCPA. The FDCPA is a laundry list of what Meade & Associates can and cannot do while collecting a debt, as well as things debt collectors must do while collecting a debt. If Meade & Associates is harassing you over a debt, you have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”) protects you from robocalls. Robocalls are those annoying, automated, recorded calls that a computer makes to you all day long. You can tell it’s a robocall because either no one is on the other end of the line or there’s a delay when you pick up the phone before a live person comes on the line. You can get $500 per call if Meade & Associates violates the TCPA. Have you received a message from Meade & Associates that sounds pre-recorded? Or, maybe the message you received from Meade & Associates is cutoff at the beginning or the end? These are tell-tale signs that the message is pre-recorded. If you have these messages on your cell phone, you may have a TCPA case against Meade & Associates. The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (“EFTA”) protects electronic payments that are deducted from bank accounts. If Meade & Associates took unauthorized deductions from your bank account, you may have an EFTA claim. Meade & Associates, like most collection agencies, wants to set up reoccurring payments from consumers. Imagine how much money Meade & Associates gets if hundreds, if not thousands, of consumers electronically pay them $50-$100, or more, per month. If you agreed to this type of reoccurring payment, Meade & Associates must follow certain steps to comply with the EFTA. Did Meade & Associates continue to take electronic payments after you said stop? Did Meade & Associates take more money from your checking account than you agreed to? If so, let’s talk about your rights under the EFTA.The Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”) works to ensure that no information reported to your credit report is false. In essence, it gives you the right to dispute those inaccuracies that you find on your credit report. We handled a lot of cases recently where Meade & Associates reported debt on a consumer’s credit report. Meade & Associates likely reports on credit reports to obtain greater leverage over the consumer. If Meade & Associates is on your credit report, they may tell you if you pay the debt, they’ll remove it from your credit report. This is commonly known as pay for delete. You pay Meade & Associates, and they delete the debt from your credit report. Even if Meade & Associates is not on your credit report, maybe the original creditor is. If you pay off the debt to Meade & Associates, then the original creditor, and Meade & Associates, should accurately report this on your credit report.Several states also have laws that provide its citizens an additional layer of protection. For example, if you live in California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Montana, or Pennsylvania you may be able to tack on a state-law claim with your federal law claim above. North Carolina, for example, has one of the most consumer-friendly statutes in the country. If you live in NC, and you’re harassed over a debt, you may get $500.00 – $4,000.00 in damages per violation. We work with a local counsel in NC. Our NC clients have received some great results in debt collection harassment cases. If you live in NC, and Meade & Associates is harassing you, you have tons of leverage to get a great settlement.

HOW CAN WE USE THE LAW TO HELP YOU?

We will use state and federal laws to immediately stop Meade & Associates debt collection. We will send a cease and desist letter to get the harassment to stop the same day. If Meade & Associates violates the FDCPA, EFTA, FCRA, or any state laws, you may be entitled to money damages. For example, under the FDCPA, you can get up $1,000.00 in damages plus actual damages. The FDCPA has a fee-shift provision. This means, Meade & Associates pays our attorney’s fees and costs. If you have a TCPA case against Meade & Associates, we will handle it based on a contingency fee.THAT’S NOT ALL…We have helped hundreds of consumers stop phone calls from Meade & Associates. We know how to stop the harassment and get you money damages. ONCE AGAIN, you will not pay us a penny for our time. We will help you based on a fee-shift provision and/or based on a contingency fee. That means, Meade & Associates pays our attorney’s fees and costs.

What If Meade & Associates Is On My Credit Report?

Based on our experience, Meade & Associates does credit report. That means, Meade & Associates will mark your credit report with the debt they are trying to collect on. In addition to Meade & Associates, the original creditor may be on your credit report. For example, if you owe Comenity Bank on a credit card, and Meade & Associates is collecting on it, both Comenity Bank and Meade & Associates may have separate entries on your credit report. This is important because you will want both parties to update your credit report if you pay off the debt.THE GOOD NEWS IS…If Meade & Associates is on your credit report, we can help you dispute it. Mistakes on your credit report can be very costly. Along with causing you to pay higher interest rates, you may be denied credit, insurance, a rental home, a loan, or even a job because of these mistakes. Some mistakes may include someone else’s information on your credit report, inaccurate publicrecords, stale collection accounts, or maybe you were a victim of identity theft. If you have a mistake on your credit report, there is a process to dispute them. My office will help you pull your credit report and dispute any inaccurate information.REMEMBER…If a credit reporting agency violates its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), you may be entitled to statutory damages up to $1,000.00, plus the credit reporting agency will be required to fix the error. The FCRA also has a fee-shift provision. This means, the credit reporting agency pays your attorney’s fees and costs. Therefore, you will not pay me a penny for my time. We have helped dozens of consumers fix inaccurate information on their credit reports.

Complaints against Meade & Associates

If you’re on this page, chances are you are just like the hundreds of consumers out there being harassed by Meade & Associates. The complaints on the Better Business Bureau (“BBB”), various consumer websites, including on Pissed Consumer, and even the complaints on this page (below) are endless. Meade & Associates is accredited by the BBB. The BBB gives Meade & Associates an “B” rating. Despite its “B” rating, here are nearly 75 customer complaints on the BBB.Here are some of the many BBB complaints regarding Meade & Associates:

  1. “This company acquired a collection account on a non-valid debt. When notified, the representative stated “I do not care if the debt is valid, my job is to collect the money.” When offered a reduced payment and request to amend the collection on credit report, the representative laughed… uncontrollably and then stated “this is not ‘Let’s make a deal.”
  2. “this company “collected” 40 dollars that i owed Ohio Health, I paid it the moment i seen it on my credit 3 years ago, and it’s paid and full, i called them to confirm and i wondered why as of Feb 2017 they are still reporting and open but paid?”
  3. “Meade & Associates has reported $51 on my credit report in the name of ****** Area Physicians; however, ****** Area Physicians is showing a 0 (zero) balance due. Meade & Associates will not even review the statement from ****** Area Physicians, which I have faxed twice now.”

The reviews on Google are just as bad. Both reviews give Meade & Associates only 1.6 stars. Here’s a snippet of the reviews on Google:

  1. “Harassment service that won’t stop calling me. I don’t owe them any money I’ve never even heard of these people. I’m taking legal action if I’m called again.”
  2. “I realize that this is a collection agency but I owe them nothing and am attempting to get my credit straightened out and they should be removed from my report but absolutely refuse to do anything. Not to entire they are the rudest group of people I have EVER dealt with in my life.”
  3. “This is a very unprofessional company. I paid off a bill and it was not removed from my credit. When I spoke to a lady there she made a rude comment to me saying ” well if were an adult you would pay your bill on time”. I understand people make mistakes but for a company to make a comment like that is not good business at all.”

Cases We Have Handled Against Meade & Associates

I THINK YOU’LL AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY…Threats and harassment by collection agencies can be pretty intimidating. Well, it turns out we can stop the harassment, attempt to get you money damages under the law, and the collection agency will have to pay us our fees and costs. Here is one of the cases we’ve handled against Meade & Associates:Michelle M. v. Meade & Associates. In this case, Meade & Associates called our client on her cell phone. Meade & Associates called from 614-635-8100, which is one of Meade & Associates’ phone numbers. On or around May 25, 2016, Michelle spoke with one of Meade & Associates representatives and request that the calls stop. Despite Michelle’s request for the calls to stop, Meade & Associates continued to place collection calls to Michelle’s telephone number. Meade & Associates used an automatic telephone dialing system to call Michelle’s telephone number. In this case, we alleged Meade & Associates violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.America’s Consumer Lawyer, has over 630 outstanding client reviews through Yotpo, an A+ BBB rating, and over 100 five-star reviews on Google. Here’s what some of our clients have to say about us.“I was very pleased with the quality, attentiveness and dedication of the Law Offices of Mr. Michael Agruss in settling my case. I found them to be very knowledgeable with full expertise on consumer law matters. I can say without reservation that I can fully trust them and their service.”“A few months ago, my wife and I began to receive some disturbing phone calls from a collection agency. I immediately contacted the America’s Consumer Lawyer. Within 24 hours the phone calls stopped. Because of the diligence, professionalism and hard work by many at the America’s Consumer Lawyer, we received a settlement check from the collection agency for their wrongful acts.”“I would like to thank the America’s Consumer Lawyer, specifically Pooja Dosi, for taking care of a stressful situation. Getting constant calls from harassing collection agency is extremely stressful. After contacting America’s Consumer Lawyer and speaking with Pooja, the calls stopped almost immediately. Not only is Agruss extremely knowledgeable, but very fast in getting a resolution to my case.”

Can Meade & Associates Sue You?

Although anyone can sue anyone for any reason, we have never seen Meade & Associates sue consumers. It’s likely Meade & Associates does not sue because they do not always own the debt they are collecting on. Also, Meade & Associates would have to hire a lawyer, or use in-house counsel, to file a lawsuit. It’s likely Meade & Associates collects debts through the entire country. Therefore, it would be very difficult to have lawyers, or a law firm, licensed in every state. There are collection agencies that do sue consumers. For example, Midland Credit Management is one of the largest junk-debt buyers. Midland Credit Management collects on debt and also sues on debt. The opposite is true with Meade & Associates. Therefore, it would be very unusual if Meade & Associates sued you. The original creditor, on the other hand, may hire a collection firm, or lawyer, to sue you. If Meade & Associates has threatened to sue you, call us. We can help.

Can Meade & Associates Garnish Your Wages?

No, not unless they have a judgment. If Meade & Associates has not sued you, then Meade & Associates cannot get a judgment. If Meade & Associates does not have a judgment, then Meade & Associates cannot garnish your wages. Minus limited situations (usually dealing with debts owed to the government for student loans, taxes, etc.), in order to garnish someone’s wages, you need a judgment first. In short, we have not seen Meade & Associates file a lawsuit against a consumer. So, Meade & Associates cannot garnish your wages, minus the exceptions listed above. If Meade & Associates has threatened to garnish your wages, contact our office right away.

Meade & Associates Settlement

If you want to settle a debt with Meade & Associates, ask yourself these questions first:

  1. Do I really owe this debt?
  2. Is this debt within the statute of limitations?
  3. Is this debt on my credit report?
  4. If I pay this debt, will Meade & Associates remove it from my credit report?
  5. If I pay this debt, will the original creditor remove it from my credit report?
  6. If I pay this debt, will I get something in writing from Meade & Associates confirming the payment and settlement terms?

These are not the only things to consider when dealing with debt collectors. We are here to help you answer the questions above, and much more. Whether it’s harassment, settlement, pay for delete, or any other legal issue with Meade & Associates, the folks at America’s Consumer Lawyer are here to help you.

Meade & Associates keeps calling and when they do leave a voicemail it is always for someone with a name I do not know. I think it is a trick to get you to call them. I have my phone set to auto-reject their calls, but it is rediculous they cannot even use the correct name.

Hi Donovan, If Meade and Associates is harassing you on your son's debt, then you may have a case under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ("FDCPA"). Did Meade and Associates disclose your son's debt when they called you? If so, your son may also have a case against Meade & Associates based on a 3rd-party disclosure. I'll call you to get some more details from you. Thanks, Mike.

This business continues to call me, 3 or 4 times per day. When I answer, they hang up. I called back and they said that they are looking for Jennifer Howell. When I informed them that I didn't know who that was and asked to be removed from their list, I was told, "okay thanks" and hung up on. They continue calling multiple times per day, despite being told they have the wrong information.

Hi Josh, I'm sorry to hear you are being harassed by Meade & Associates over a debt you do not owe. Meade & Associates has been around since 1978. I will help you stop the calls once and for all. We can also discuss whether or not Meade & Associates violated debt collection harassment laws or the law regarding robocalls. Thanks, Mike.

Hi Kathy, Have you checked your credit report? You can get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com Regardless if Meade & Associates is on your credit report, it's always a good idea to check your credit report to make sure nothing is inaccurate on it. You can also call Meade & Associates to find out why they are calling you. They should not be calling you 4-5 times per day. So, while you have them on the phone, tell them to stop calling you.
