Mitsubishi Recalls Electric Cars

On February 5, 2012, Mitsubishi Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of certain model year 2012 i-MiEV electric vehicles, over a faulty brake system vacuum pump. i-MiEV vehicles manufactured from December 2, 2011, through September 7, 2012 were built with a brake system vacuum pump that may fail, making the vacuum pump inoperable.

Were the vacuum pump system to fail, the brake power would be decreased, extending the vehicle’s stopping distance and increasing the risk of crashing. Mitsubishi plans to contact owners about the recall; the company’s dealerships will replace the affected vacuum pumps for free.
