Is walking good for broken ribs?

If you or a loved one has fractured a bone from an accident, contact America’s Consumer Lawyer for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

A broken rib occurs when one or more bones in your rib cage break or crack due to a high-energy impact or trauma. During this time, it is generally advised to rest your body so that your abdominal region does not endure any sudden or frequent movements that would prolong the recovery process. The goal during recovery is to immobilize the area so that the bones can stay in place and heal on their own.

While most cases of broken ribs are healed in about six weeks, you should be able to walk before then. It would be your best option to speak to your doctor about exactly how often you should be walking or if it should simply be avoided. Daily activities can typically resume before the end of the six weeks, including walking.
