Can a fractured vertebrae heal on its own?

If you or a loved one has fractured your vertebrae from an accident, contact America’s Consumer Lawyer for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.

A fractured vertebra is when one of the bones in the vertebrae breaks due to some strong force, such as a car crash, a sports injury, or a harsh fall. There are 33 individual bones in the spinal column which allow us to keep an upright position, act as support for our head and neck, and they are also an essential component to the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS sends messages through the spinal cord to and away from the brain in order to carry out a countless amount of everyday functions from sensory processing to motor skills.

This type of injury largely depends on the severity and location of the injury. A severe injury situated in the cervical portion of the spine (the upper portion) may cause more damage and be more difficult to handle and treat than a minor fracture in the lower back. Each person’s situation is different. But generally, these minor fractures can heal on their own. Other fractures can heal easily with conservative treatment, for the most part.

This is not to say that if you suspect that you fractured your vertebrae, you should rest and wait for the pain to subside as it “heals on its own.” This means that after you seek medical attention immediately following the accident, a doctor may advise you to simply rest as the fracture heals itself. You must rule out any other injuries or damage to your body that may have come from this accident before you can determine that whatever injury that you may have can heal itself. Due to the important structures, such as the CNS, which are around the spine, it is very important that you see a doctor right after an accident to make sure that nothing else is damaged. They can also tell you the best way to expedite the healing process at home.

If another person caused your injuries, you can file a claim against them for monetary damages. Medical care for a fractured vertebra is not cheap, and it certainly is not cheap when it involves potential complications that you may have had to deal with. With our help, we can help you recover the costs of your medical bills, lost wages, and other damages that resulted from another person’s actions.
