Another troubling case of abuse in a nursing home has recently been reported; this one comes from upstate New York. On November 30th last year, a Level 3 sex offender—who was employed as a maintenance worker at the Loudonville Home for Adults—”placed his hands down the shirt of the victim and rubbed her breasts without consent,” according to Colonie police. Richard Ragone, 64, was spotted in the act of touching the elderly woman by a coworker. Ragone had previously served 16 years behind bars for the 1983 rape and sodomy of a woman in Saratoga County; he was arrested on December 20th after a police investigation into the November 30th incident.

Ragone was fired by nursing home officials after the allegations surfaced (though, had a proper background check been performed, he would never have been hired in the first place); he confessed the crime to police in a statement. Ragone had been called to the 91-year-old victim’s room to change a light bulb. All told, he has four prior felony convictions and five misdemeanor convictions. He was charged by Colonie police with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, a felony, and misdemeanor sexual abuse, and is being held at the Albany County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
