Cooperative Farm

An agricultural cooperative, also known as a cooperative farm or farmers co-op, is a farm where farmers pool their resources and may be one of three types of co-ops. These include:

  • Machinery pool – A family farm that is too small to purchase expensive farm machinery that is used irregularly. Local farmers get together to form a machinery pool that will purchase equipment for all members to use. They may also “bank” other supplies such as seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, and fuel.
  • Manufacturing/marketing co-op – Farms that do not have the means of delivering produce to market or produce smaller volumes will allow the co-op to act as an integrator that will collect the output from its members, undertake manufacturing, and deliver the products in larger quantities.
  • Credit union – Farmers are often charged relatively high interest rates by commercial banks or they may be denied credit altogether. To provide a source of credit, farmers may group together funds that can be loaned out to the co-op’s members. They can also raise loans at better rates from commercial banks because they are a larger size than an individual.
Agricultural jobs rank as one of the most dangerous in the U.S. If you or a loved one was injured, you may be entitled to compensation depending on the circumstances of your accident. Negligence on the part of your employer, machinery manufacturer, landowner, etc. can be grounds for a personal injury lawsuit and the lawyers at America’s Consumer Lawyer will work with you to help determine whether filing a lawsuit is in your best interest and make sure you receive the compensation you deserve.
We are proud to serve our fellow citizens in personal injury cases, especially when you or a loved one has suffered an injury or illness due to another’s negligence.
