I actually do not know where to start as I have been dealing with Sallie Mae/Navient for far too long and if you look at their Facebook page as well as other pages, you will see I am not alone in my complaints against this company. The main problem started when I joined a volunteer program and was looking to defer or forbear my private loans through their company back in June 2011. I was working with a woman named Michelle Youngbear and she approved my forbearance/deferment for ten months (the duration of my volunteer period). When I have called and asked to speak with Michelle, I have been told she no longer works in that department and all the other people I talk to simply attack me for being jobless and not being able to make the full payment. I have been in constant contact with Sallie Mae about may circumstances and I have received as many as 10 phone calls per day (harassing collection calls on my cell phone). In September I made a payment of $1,800 and was told that I would not be required to make a payment until December. When I logged on to my account today I was shocked and very angry to see that they show me as delinquent AGAIN on my accounts when I was told I was paid up. Also, they are showing charges for an account that they said they have sold to the Department of Education. When I spoke to a woman named Sara today she was condescending, rude, and did not listen to me at all. I ended up hanging up on her because she only wanted to argue, did not do any looking into any of the things I had told her and even had the audacity to say this was my fault because I did not contact a credit check and dispute the transactions. These people do not train people who can speak English very well, do not listen to your concerns, and bully people instead of help them. My biggest complaint is that I had perfect credit before I started dealing with this company and now it is destroyed . I have always paid my bills and paid them on time until I did not have a job and not until the economy went downhill. I have made every attempt to work with Sallie Mae directly, but they only care about themselves and making money. I think it is disgusting that a company can have such low standards, ethics, and morale as well as change the rules when it is convenient. A person can not get a straight or consistent answer any time they call. I had to call six times today before I was helped instead of transferred to some know it all jerk with a bad attitude and zero willingness to listen. You should never make excuses for your company misleading people and that is all I received today along with a lot of attitude. Sallie Mae claims they record all conversations, I would be very interested for them to listen to the tapes from today or otherwise they need to quit lying about recording conversations as well because it falsely misleads customers.
