Who is JSC Federal Credit Union?

JSC Federal Credit Union is a credit union based in Houston, Texas. It is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

JSC Federal Credit Union serves much of the Houston bay area as well as Galveston County.

JSC Federal Credit Union’s Address, Phone Number, and Contact Information

JSC Federal Credit Union is located at 1330 Gemini, Houston, TX 77058. The main telephone numbers are 800-940-0708 (toll-free) and 281-488-7070 and the main website is www.jscfcu.org/

JSC Federal Credit Union Lawsuits

If you want to know just how unhappy consumers are with JSC Federal Credit Union, take a look at the number of complaints consumers have made online. Nowadays, most original creditors, credit card companies, etc. have arbitration clauses, which means that if you have a complaint against that company, you must file your claim in arbitration. Arbitration limits discovery, is not public, has a limited appellate process, and, most importantly, is funded primarily by banks and big businesses. While it can be difficult to get a fair chance in arbitration, the good news is we have filed hundreds of credit harassment cases in arbitration, and we know how to aggressively fight these cases against the big banks and businesses even when arbitration is necessary.

JSC Federal Credit Union Complaints

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) protects you from robocalls, which are those annoying, automated, recorded calls that computers make all day long. You can tell it’s a robocall because either no one responds on the other end of the line, or there is a delay when you pick up the phone before a live person responds. You can receive $500 per call if JSC Federal Credit Union violates the TCPA. Have you received a message from this agency that sounds pre-recorded or cut-off at the beginning or end? These are tell-tale signs that the message is pre-recorded, and if you have these messages on your cell phone, you may have a TCPA case against the agency.

The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) protects electronic payments that are deducted from bank accounts. If JSC Federal Credit Union took unauthorized deductions from your bank account, you may have an EFTA claim against the agency. JSC Federal Credit Union, like most collection agencies, wants to set up recurring payments from consumers; imagine how much money it can earn if hundreds, even thousands, of consumers electronically pay them $50 – $100 or more per month. If you agreed to this type of reoccurring payment, the agency must follow certain steps to comply with the EFTA. Did JSC Federal Credit Union continue to take electronic payments after you told them to stop? Did they take more money from your checking account than you agreed to?  If so, we can discuss your rights and a potential case under the EFTA.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) works to ensure that no information reported to your credit report is false. In essence, it gives you the right to dispute those inaccuracies that you find on your credit report. We’ve handled many cases in which a debt collection agency reported debt on a consumer’s credit report to obtain leverage over the consumer. If JSC Federal Credit Union is on your credit report, they may tell you that they’ll remove the debt from your credit report if you pay it; this is commonly known as “pay for delete.” If the original creditor is on your report rather than the debt collector, and you pay off the debt, both entities should accurately report this on your credit report.

Several states also have laws to provide their citizens with an additional layer of protection. For example, if you live in California, Florida, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Wisconsin, you may be able to add a state-law claim to your federal law claim above.  North Carolina, for example, has one of the most consumer-friendly statutes in the country: if you live in NC and are harassed over a debt, you may receive $500 – $4,000 in damages per violation. We work with a local counsel in NC and our NC clients have received some great results in debt collection harassment cases. If you live in North Carolina and are being harassed by a debt collector, you have the leverage to obtain a great settlement.

How do we Use the Law to Help You?

We will use state and federal laws to immediately stop JSC Federal Credit Union’s debt collection. We will send a cease-and-desist letter to stop the harassment today, and if JSC Federal Credit Union violates the FDCPA, EFTA, FCRA, or any state law, you may be entitled to money damages. For example, under the FDCPA, you may receive up to $1,000 in damages plus actual damages. The FDCPA also has a fee-shift provision, which means the debt collector will pay your attorneys’ fees and costs. If you have a TCPA case against the agency, we will handle it based on a contingency fee and you won’t pay us a dime unless you win.

THAT’S NOT ALL…

We have helped thousands of consumers stop phone calls.  We know how to stop the harassment and get you money damages. Once again: you will not pay us a dime for our services. We will help you based on a fee-shift provision and/or contingency fee, and the debt collector will pay your attorneys’ fees and costs.

What if JSC Federal Credit Union is on My Credit Report?

Based on our experience, some debt collectors may credit-report, which means one may mark your credit report with the debt they are trying to collect. In addition to or instead of the debt collector, the original creditor may also be on your credit report in a separate entry, and it’s important to properly identify these entities because you will want both to update your credit report if or when you pay off the debt.

THE GOOD NEWS IS…

If JSC Federal Credit Union is on your credit report, we can help you dispute it. Mistakes on your credit report can be very costly: along with causing you to pay higher interest rates, you may be denied credit, insurance, a rental home, a loan, or even a job because of these mistakes. Some mistakes may include someone else’s information on your credit report, inaccurate public records, stale collection accounts, or even being a victim of identity theft. If you have a mistake on your credit report, there is a process to dispute it, and my office will help you obtain your credit report and dispute any inaccurate information.

REMEMBER…

If a credit reporting agency violates its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), you may be entitled to statutory damages up to $1,000, and the credit reporting agency will be required to fix the error. The FCRA also has a fee-shift provision, which means the credit reporting agency will pay your attorneys’ fees and costs. You won’t owe us a dime for our services. We have helped hundreds of consumers fix inaccurate information on their credit reports, and we’re ready to help you, too.

Top Debt Collection Violations

Debt collection laws provided a laundry list of what collectors can and cannot do while collecting a debt. Based on our years of experience handling thousands of debt collection harassment cases, here’s what collection agencies most often do to violate the law.
  1. Called you about a debt you do not owe.
  2. Called you at work after you told them you cannot receive calls at work.
  3. Left you a message without identifying the company’s name.
  4. Left you a message without disclosing that the call is from a debt collector.
  5. Called third parties (family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors) even though the collection agency knows your contact information.
  6. Disclosed to a third party (family, friends, coworkers, or neighbors) that you owe a debt.
  7. Contacted you after you said stop calling.
  8. Threatened you with legal action (such as a lawsuit or wage garnishment).
  9. Called you before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM.
  10. Continued to call you after you have told the collector you cannot pay the debt.
  11. Communicated (phone or letter) with you after you filed for bankruptcy.
  12. Failed to mark the debt on your credit report as disputed after you disputed the debt.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I have to pay your fees and costs for helping me with my consumer rights case? No. We handle consumer rights cases based on a fee-shift provision and/or a contingency fee. That means either the other side pays your fees and costs, or we take a percentage of your recovery. Whether it’s a fee-shift case or a contingency-fee case, we don’t get paid unless you get paid, and you’ll never owe us a penny for our time.

  2. What are the damages under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act? You can get $500 per robocall, or $1,500 per robocall if the robocalls were willful. In any type of settlement, oftentimes Defendants pay much less than $500 per call. However, if there are 50 calls at issue, even at $250 per call, your case could settle for $12,500.00.

  3. Are there state laws that protect me from original creditors? Yes! Several states also have laws that provide their citizens an additional layer of protection. For example, if you live in California, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin, you have additional state-law rights.

  4. What type of debt is covered under state laws that protect me from original creditors? Only consumer debt, such as personal, family, and household debts. For example, the money you owe on a personal credit card, an auto loan, a medical bill, or a utility bill. State laws usually do not cover debts you incurred to run a business, or debts regarding unpaid taxes, or traffic tickets.

  5. Does the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act apply to banks or credit card companies? No. Only third-party debt collectors are bound by the FDCPA. That is, original creditors, such as credit card companies and banks, are not bound by the FDCPA.

  6. Are mistakes on credit reports common? Yes! Are you one of the 40 million Americans that have a mistake on their credit report? Mistakes on your credit report can be very costly. Along with causing you to pay higher interest rates, you may be denied credit, insurance, a rental home, a loan, or even a job because of these mistakes. Some mistakes may include someone else’s information on your credit report, inaccurate public records, stale collection accounts, or maybe you were a victim of identity theft.

  7. What do I do if I have a mistake on my credit report? If you have a mistake on your credit report, there is a process to dispute them. My office will help you pull your credit report and dispute any inaccurate information. If a credit reporting agency violates its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), you may be entitled to statutory damages up to $1,000.00, plus the credit reporting agency will be required to fix the error. The FCRA also has a fee-shift provision. This means, the credit reporting agency pays your attorney’s fees and costs. Therefore, you will not pay me a penny for my time. To speed up the process, please get a free copy of your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com. I had to move to Missouri from Texas due to a probate issue dealing with much acreages of property that had to do with property when my mother and daddy died. I was never aware that a probate would take this long but it has so for now I had to change my address to Missouri in order to continue the probate case with Mother's Missouri address. I lived in Texas for about 38 years and worked at NASA. Since I have been banking at NASA JSC due to all the issues it would prevvent with my leaving so I stayed and have banked at NASA JSC for almost 40 years. Tis is my problem. Right at the time Wellby went in with JSC I had borrowed a personal loan of $8,000. I had that much in my savings account at JSC but chose not to use it but to borrow the amount instead of taking it out of my savings account. Now when they were still JSC the loan department told me that I could pay for a few months and they would release the hold on my savings which has been done this way ever since JSC was a credit union as I have borrowed loans fro them before and they would always release the hold on my savings within a few months as they have done every member for years. We would pay the loan for a few months and they would release our savings. Well within those few months of opening the loan Wellby comes along and says everyone who had any loan could not be release from their collateral. So now after 38 years my savings cannot be touched until the loan is paid. It has not ben that way for over 38 years. This is not what the loan department told me too as it been that way for the 38 years I have banked there. Now I still had $8,000 in my savings account at JSC. We have another bank that we use here in Missouri but kept JSC as we have baked with them so long. All of a sudden I found out that my savings account cannot be touched until the personal loan is paid off. Now even the loan was not as much as my savings they still withheld my savings account. I asked them why my savings is being withheld when it is more than the loan amount that I owed. I got no answer. I asked them to take the principal that I paid each month from the loan and open a separate savings account with it and they did. That was a horrible mistake. Then I started seeing money disappear from my savings account. I asked where the money disappeared to. They did not tell me. I saw the $8,000 dwindle down to $6,900.I kept pleading with them to help me find out where it went. Now this was when Wellby was now in the picture. I always knew my balance and i banked by phone each month. When JSC and Wellby came along they changed the phone numbers you could bank by but told no one and i continued to bank by phone with the same number I always used. I knew what my bank and savings balance was but money started disappearing. Now II am 75 years old and when money starts disappearing it is frightening. I recently had to go to doctors a long way fro me and I transferred $1,000 from my saings to ms insufficient in my checking so instead of them taking it from my operdraft they took it all from y saings account. down the the es=xact amount I owed for the loan which meant /i could get nothing out of my saings account as it was frozen due to the loan. Now tht is scary to a 75 year old woman who has banked ther for 38 years. I told me "You mean that oer $2,000 was gone within one month? Who gae you the right to take money g=from my saings because I neer signed for that to be done. Then everything else was changed. The date to pay the loan was changed, The dates to pay the isa was changed. A; the dates were changed and the phone number to do business for JSC was also changed and they do no tell youthat when you call on their main phone number. So who was I banking with when i called their old pone number? Where did all my aings go. I called and demanded to know who was in their executie office because I wanted answers. No one would connect me with their main office. I ewould call taking money from my accounts. wuthout my approval theft and where my money has gone is fraud. Yo date not one i jae spolken with has bothered to call me back and I still have no idea where my money has gone so now I am haing to start all oer again and built up y aings acount and at 75 years old this is worse than scary. All the time I hae banked there meant nothing to JSC since it is now Wellby/JSC everything has changed. do clal them taking oney out of my account theft because I neber gab=e them that right and this is the strange thing. My oerdraft is npow $750 when it was $1,000. I was making monthy payment on my oberdraft each month to pay it down due to their mistake but still I was paying it =each month and now all of a suddden all the oerdraft oney is paid and 'i owe nothing????? Who gae them the righ to take money from my account and pay off the oerdraft monies? They wer taking money from my account like it was candy without my approbal on any of it. It matters not what was owed because eerythin g was paid to date.I still hae no idea what they did with all my saaings and no one will tell me of what stared out as $7,999 and now is down the the exact amunt thaat the loan was which is $5,200. The is #3,000 that is unaccounted for and I hae no idea what they have done with it and no o ne will tell me anything. Now I did do a loan transger of $1,000 before I left to go to the doctor and they till wsaid I jad debits come in so they took my money out of my saings and I neer gave them that right to doand ad oerdraft so why did they not use it since someone took my money and paid that off too. There is something ery wrong with my account and een if it was $6,900. JSC still took $1,700 without my permission? I will most likely get money from the bank down her to pay off the loan and close out Wellby/JSC but they should be charged with fraud. They definitely lied to me about a hold on my saings and when a person is 85 years old and they saings account is frozen that is a very "scary" feeling to do that to a 75 year old woman. They take money from my account without takig it from my line of credit, they are tkaing it wihtout my approal. The freeze myt saings top where /i cannto touch it. They cannot explain or tell e what happened to $1,700. When I took out the. loan they told me the "freeze" would come off my saings account with a few months and now that it is Wellby/JSC that was a lie? I am trying to oerpay that personal loan so I can hae my daigs unfrozen and returned to me. Any elderly person who banks there has no rights whatsoeer and what tey are doing to us who are elder is just wrong. The State of Missouri told me they cannot do anything her because een though I lie her the credit un ion is in Texas and I would hae to go to the proper federal authorities. I am not realy sure who the propfederal authorities are for a federal credit union but something needs to be done. I am paying this loan each month on time and pay more tha is due and yet they still hold my savings. They even held my savings when it was more than the loan and told me I cannot touch it but they touched it and drew all the money out of it.
