Mailing Time

Your auto insurer must send the mail notifying you of your nonrenewal to your last known mailing address. It is best to notify your insurer or agent if and when you move. Your insurer must mail the notice at least 30 days before the nonrenewal date. Your auto insurance provider is required to have proof of mailing but isn’t required to show proof you’ve received the notice.

As with the former category, policyholders with policies that’s been active for 5 or more years must keep their insurers or agents updated with their current addresses. Your insurer must mail the notice to you: 1) at least 30 days before the nonrenewal date and must also nonrenew the policy for reasons cited in the 30-day written notice; or, 2) at least 60 days before the date of nonrenewal for almost any reason.
