Standing forklifts differ from traditional forklifts in that the forklift operators are standing during the machine’s operation. Standup forklifts allow for added mobility and make it easier to fit into tighter spaces, but they also come with added risks for accidents and serious injuries.

If you have been injured in a standing forklift accident, contact Mike Agruss Law for a free consultation. We are a Chicago-based injury law firm representing individuals (and their families) who have suffered an injury in an accident. We will handle your case quickly and advise you every step of the way, and we will not hesitate to go to trial for you. Lastly, Mike Agruss Law is not paid attorneys’ fees unless we win your case. Our no-fee promise is that simple. You have nothing to risk when you hire us – only the opportunity to seek justice.

Causes of Standing Forklift Accidents

Traditional forklifts provide greater safety measures compared to standing forklifts, such as seatbelts and overhead cages. Standing forklifts not only do not have these safety measures, but they also have a higher center of gravity when lifting loads, putting workers at-risk for tip-over accidents and being thrown from the forklift.

Other causes of standing forklift accidents include:
  • Operating the forklift with a lifted load – Proper procedure is to lower a load before transporting it as a raised load increases the risk of a tip-over.
  • Failure to alert – Forklift operators can prevent accidents by alerting other forklift operators and bystanders of their presence.
  • Lack of compartment door – Standing forklift operators are more likely to be thrown from the machine than traditional forklift operators, which is why it is important to have protective devices such as compartment doors installed and functional.
  • Operation of a malfunctioning forklift – A forklift that does not meet safety standards puts the operator and bystanders at-risk for serious and deadly injuries. Standing forklifts should pass weight load tests and crash tests to ensure that they are safe.

If you or a loved one has suffered injuries due to negligence on the job site or a defective product, an experienced personal injury lawyer can review your claim and determine if there were unsafe working conditions, potential OSHA violations, and other hazards that may have existed at the time of your accident. They will also determine who may be liable for your injuries and damages and what compensation you may be entitled to.
