If you or a loved one has fractured a bone from an accident, contact America’s Consumer Lawyer for a free consultation so we can help you recover from this experience and get fairly compensated.
The pelvis is a ring of bones at the base of the spine which supports the upper body and transfers body weight to the lower limbs. It is an essential part of our body’s structure, however, one harsh fall can cause it to fracture. A pelvic fracture is when a strong force causes a break in one of the pelvic bones – most commonly, the ilium, ischium, or the pubis.
Unfortunately, along with one break in these bones often comes another break in a nearby bone, an injury to surrounding soft tissue, ligaments, joints, or other parts of the body. In general, pelvic fractures are relatively rare fractures. They also require an extremely strong force to break the pelvis since it is such a strong structure. They are the result of harsh falls, car accidents, motorcycle accidents, sports accidents, crush accidents, and are much more likely with older age or among those with bone diseases.
Common symptoms of a pelvic fracture include hip pain, abdominal pain, pain with sudden lower-body movements, numbness in the legs or pelvic region, difficulty walking or standing, swelling or bruising in the pelvic/hip area, and more. A doctor can diagnose this injury with an X-ray, an MRI, a CT scan, and/or a physical examination. Depending on how severe it is, you will be given a course of treatment to safely and quickly recover and get back to normal. Treatment can range from self-healing with painkillers to multiple surgeries and physical therapy.
