What is the fastest way to heal a herniated disc?

Aging and trauma are the primary culprits for disc herniation. This injury occurs when the nucleus found in the vertebrae is pushed out, putting pressure on the spinal nerve, and causing pain. The pain may radiate from the neck and back to the legs, hips, thighs, and buttocks.

Most cases of disc herniation normally heal on its own along with certain measures in place. While people with lower back pains were previously advised to lie in bed, people are now being told to the opposite – to stay active – to avoid muscle weakness. There is no identified way to heal the injury quickly but “conservative” treatment for lower back pain includes:
  •  Exercise;
  •  Relaxation and positioning;
  •  Pain medications; and
  •  Physical therapy
If the herniated disc resulted from trauma, visit your doctor for an evaluation. If, within eight weeks the pain or discomfort persists or you experience any red flags indicated below, see your physician or visit the emergency room:
  • Fever, chills, flu-like symptoms, or rash
  • Changes in bladder or bowel functions
  • Serious and gradual weakness
If your herniated disc is caused by a personal injury, we can help you ease the financial burden of treatment and recovery. Back injuries may greatly impair your quality of life and having the financial capacity to cover your medical expenses and even lost earnings may ease the burden of the injury.
