Introduction

Archer Heights is a neighborhood that runs from south of Chicago’s downtown area, through the southwest side of Chicago, along what was once a Native American trail.

The neighborhood is bounded by the Stevenson Expressway to the north, the CTA Orange Line to the south, the Corwith rail yard to the east, and the railroad tracks/Knox Avenue to the west.

Transportation

Historically, transportation between downtown Chicago and the Southwest Side was limited to express buses that traveled down the Stevenson Expressway. In 1993, the Orange Line was created to solve this issue. Pulaski station was built as an Orange Line stop at the corner of Pulaski Road and 51st Street near Archer Avenue.

Archer Heights also has access to Divvy rideshare bicycles, as well as Lyft/Uber rideshare services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.

Demographics

Archer Heights has a population of 13,266 in its 2.01 square miles. The largest population within the area is of Eastern European descent, however, the area has seen a large influx in its Hispanic population since the 1990’s.

At the end of the 20th Century, Archer Heights was 60% manufacturing and bulk transportation facilities, 30% residences, and 10% commerce. With a median household income of $43,394, Archer Heights is a family community, with 38% of the households belonging to families with children.

Education

Archer Heights is home to two Chicago Public Schools (CPS) district-run schools, as well as charter and private schools, which include:

Public Schools

  • Curie Metropolitan High School
  • Edwards Elementary School

Private Schools

  • St. Richard School
  • St. Bruno School

Charter Schools

  • UCSN Major Hector P. Garcia MD High School
  • UCSN PFC Omar E. Torres School
  • Academy of Global Citizenship
  • SPC Daniel Zizumbo School

When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.

Attractions

Archer Heights is home to many activities and attractions, which include:

  • Curie Park
  • Archer Park
  • Irma C. Ruiz Park
  • Catalpa Park

While most of the time spent at these Archer Heights attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
