Avondale is on the Northwest Side of Chicago where the northern border is Addison Street from the north branch of the Chicago River in the east to Pulaski Road in the west. The neighborhood extends further west along Belmont Avenue to the Union Pacific/Northwest Line. Its southern border is Diversey Avenue from the Union Pacific/Northwest Line to the Chicago River. Its neighborhoods are Polish Village (also known as Jackowo and Waclawowo), Belmont Gardens, and Kosciuzko Park.
Demographics
Avondale is home to 39,721 residents in its 2.0 square miles. Traditionally a Polish, blue-collar neighborhood, in recent years the area has experienced an increase in social diversity, with an influx of Eastern European, Filipino, Mongolian, and Hispanic immigrants.
The top five (5) employing industries in Avondale include: administration, retail, manufacturing, utilities, and construction and the median household income for the area is $44,663.
Transportation
Avondale is serviced by the Chicago “L” at two stations along the blue line. The CTA also runs various routes including:
