Introduction
East Side is on the far south side of Chicago, between the Calumet River and the Illinois-Indiana state line. The area got its name because it is located on the east side of the Calumet River and not because it is located on the eastern side of Chicago. Many of the area’s residents are of Slovenian, Croatian, and Serbian heritage but the area also has a large Hispanic population.
Transportation
East Side is served by U.S. Highway 12, U.S. Highway 20, and U.S. Highway 41. The area also has access to public transportation including the Metra Red Line, the Metra Electric District’s South Chicago Branch, and the South Shore Line.
East Side is also served by three CTA bus routes, 26 South Shore Express, 30 South Chicago, and for weekday rush hours only, the 100 Jeffery Manor Express.
East Side also has access to Divvy rideshare bicycles, as well as Lyft/Uber rideshare services and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, bicycle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
According to the most recent U.S. Census, East Side has a population of 23,784.
There are approximately 1,560 jobs in the East Side Community Area, which places East Side in the middle of the hardship level of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
East Side lawyers at America’s Consumer Lawyer can assist residents with cases related to accidents, injuries, and health problems that may be related to these serious issues, as well as issues such as bicycle accidents, dog bites, premises accidents, car accidents, public transportation accidents, and pedestrian accidents.
Education
East Side is home to a handful of public and parochial schools, which include :
Public Schools
- Southeast Area Elementary
- Taylor Elementary
- Gallistel Elementary
- Jane Addams Elementary
- Washington Elementary
- George Washington High School
Private Schools
- Annunciata Grammar School
- St. Francis De Sales
Many students in the East Side are enrolled in schools outside of the district as well.
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
East Side is home to various attractions, including:
- Rowan William Park
- Calumet Beach
- Wolfe Richard Park
While most of the time spent at these attractions will be uneventful, unfortunately, accidents can still occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
