Introduction
East Village, or “East Ukrainian Village”, is located directly east of Ukrainian Village with the generally accepted boundaries of Ashland (1600 W) on the east, Damen (2000 W) on the west, Division (1200 N) on the north, and Chicago (800 N) on the south (although some people extend the southern border to Grand Ave).
Transportation
East Village residents and visitors have access to the Chicago “L” Blue Line, Busses #60, #49, and #50, and the Milwaukee District North and Milwaukee District West Trains..
East Village residents also have access to Divvy, Lyft/Uber rideshare services, and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
East Village initially had a strong German-American population, however now the area now has a large Polish, Latin American, and Puerto Rican population. East Village has a population of 7,176 with a median household income of $106,407.
Education
East Village is primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools and private schools including:
- William H. Wells Community Academy High School
- Christopher Columbus School
- LaSalle II School
- St. Helen Catholic School
- Noble Street College Prep
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
East Village is home to some activities and attractions, which include:
- Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art
- Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral
- Western Park
While most of the time spent at these East Village attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
