Introduction
Edgewater is a lakefront community on the North Side of Chicago, seven miles north of the Loop, and is bounded by Foster Avenue on the south, Devon Avenue on the north, Ravenswood Avenue on the west, and Lake Michigan on the east. Edgewater was originally developed in the 1880’s as a summer home for Chicago’s elite and still contains historic districts, as well as high-rise apartments, single-family homes, condominiums, mid-rise homes, and commercial businesses.
Transportation
The majority of Edgewater’s transportation needs are met by the Chicago Transit Authority through their Red Line. The area can also be accessed by the Union Pacific North train and Busses #151 and #22.
Edgewater residents also have access to taxi services and Divvy and Lyft/Uber rideshare services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
Edgewater has a population of 54,837 in its 1.71 square miles according to the most recent U.S. Census. The median household income for Edgewater is $46,174.
Education
Edgewater is primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools and private schools, including:
- Nicholas Senn High School
- Hayt Elementary School
- Swift Elementary School
- Peirce Elementary School
- Goudy Elementary School
- Northside Catholic Academy
Loyola University of Chicago’s campus borders northeastern Edgewater as well.
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, playground injuries, college accidents, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
