Introduction
The Gold Coast Historic District is part of Chicago’s Near North Side community area and it is roughly bounded by North Avenue, Lake Shore Drive, Oak Street, and Clark Street. The area was founded by millionaire Potter Palmer in 1882 following the Great Chicago Fire. Once the second-most affluent neighborhood in the U.S., the neighborhood is still a mixture of mansions, row houses, and high-rise apartments.
Transportation
Residents of the Gold Coast area have multiple options for getting to and from the area including the Chicago “L” Red Line, the UP-N and UP-NW Trains, and Bus #151.
Residents also have access to Lyft/Uber rideshare and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
The population of the Gold Coast is approximately 21,000 residents with a median age of 41. The median household income according to the most recent U.S. Census is $153,358, making it the seventh-richest urban neighborhood in America.
Education
The Gold Coast area is primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools, charter schools, and private schools, which include:
- Latin School of Chicago
- St. Chrysostom’s Day School
- Skinner North Classical School
- Ogden International Academy
- Abraham Lincoln Elementary School
- The Francis Xavier Wade School
- Frances W. Parker School
- Chicago Grammar School
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, playground injuries, college accidents, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
The Gold Coast is home to many activities and attractions, which include:
- Old Chicago Water Tower
- Water Tower Place
- Broadway Playhouse
- Newberry Library
- Washington Square Park
- 900 North Michigan Shops
- Rush Street Food and Drinks
- The Richard H. Driehaus Museum
While most of the time spent at these attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
