Introduction
Grand Boulevard is located on the South Side of Chicago and the boulevard that the area takes its name from is now called Martin Luther King, Jr Drive. The area is bounded by 39th to the north, 51st Street to the south, Cottage Grove Avenue to the east, and the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad tracks to the west. Grand Boulevard is one of the two community areas that encompass the Bronzeville neighborhood.
Transportation
Grand Boulevard is serviced by the Chicago L Green Line with four rapid transit stations at Indiana, 43rd Street, 47th Street, and 51st Street stations.
The area also has access to Divvy, Lyft/Uber rideshare services, and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
Grand Boulevard has a population of 22,373 and 9,697 households in its 1.73 square miles. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the median income for the area is $30,260. The racial makeup of the area is predominantly African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic and the median age is 36.
Education
Grand Boulevard students are serviced by Chicago Public Schools #299 as well as City Colleges of Chicago District #508 and private schools. These include:
- Holy Angels Catholic School
- Ludwig Van Beethoven Elementary School
- Bronzeville Scholastic Institute High School
- Fuller Elementary School
- Kennedy-King College Englewood
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
Grand Boulevard is home to some activities and attractions, which include:
- Harold Washington Cultural Center
- Mandrake Park
- Swift Mansion
- Robert Taylor Park
- Marx Brothers Home
- Armstrong Park
While most of the time spent at these Grand Boulevard attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
