Introduction

Greater Grand Crossing is located on the South Side of Chicago and its name comes from an 1853 right-of-way feud between the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway and the Illinois Central Railroad that led to a frog war and a crash that killed 18 people

Transportation

Greater Grand Crossing is serviced by the Chicago L Red Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as the Metra Electric line which provides commuter rail service at the 75th Street station at the intersection of East 75th Street and South Chicago Avenue.

The area also has access to Divvy, Lyft/Uber rideshare services, and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.

Demographics

Greater Grand Crossing has a population of 32,346 and in its 3.56 square miles. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the median income for the area is $26,515. The racial makeup of the area is predominantly African American, Caucasian, and Hispanic.

Education

Greater Grand Crossing students are serviced by Chicago Public Schools, which include:

  • Emil G. Hirsch Metropolitan High School
  • Deneen Elementary School
  • Tanner Elementary School

When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.

Attractions

Greater Grand Crossing is home to some activities and attractions, which include:

  • South Prairie Avenue
  • Oak Woods Cemetery
  • Grand Crossing Park
  • Al Capone’s Home

While most of the time spent at these Greater Grand Crossing attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
