Introduction
Hegewisch is located on Chicago’s far South Side and is named for Adolph Hegewisch, the president of U.S. Rolling Stock Company who hoped to create an ideal working man’s community when he laid out the town in 1883.
Transportation
Hegewisch is accessible by the South Shore Line at the Hegewisch Station as well as Busses #30, #355, #358, and #364.
The area also has access to Lyft/Uber rideshare services and taxi services. Unfortunately, this means that rideshare accidents, pedestrian accidents, motor vehicle accidents, and public transportation accidents can be common in the area.
Demographics
Hegewisch has a population of 8,985 with 3,558 households. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the median income for the area is $50,388 with a median age of 39.
There are approximately 2,500 jobs in the Hegewisch community area, with the top employing sector being manufacturing, followed by wholesale trade, retail trade, accommodation and food, and finance.
Education
Hegewisch students are primarily serviced by Chicago Public Schools and City Colleges of Chicago, which includes:
- Virgil I. Grissom Elementary School
- George Washington High School
- Olive-Harvey College
When sending your child off to school you assume they will remain safe, however, this isn’t always the case. School bus accidents, gym and physical education accidents, lack of supervision, daycare accidents, playground injuries, college accidents, and school district negligence are just a few examples of the types of school injury cases America’s Consumer Lawyer has experience with.
Attractions
Hegewisch is home to many activities and attractions, which include:
- Eggers Grove
- Mann Park
- C-44 Missile Silo
- William W. Powers State Recreation Center
- Hyde Lake Wetlands
- Burnham Park
While most of the time spent at these Hegewisch attractions will be enjoyable and uneventful, accidents can occur, including premises accidents, slip and falls, bicycle accidents, bus accidents, car accidents, drinking and driving, dog bites, and playground accidents.
